The work of missions has never been that of one man. Much of the
time, one man gets the credit for some great work, but most of the time no
great work for God has been done by only one man. Nevertheless God uses MEN.
He is always looking for a MAN who will completely and fully surrender to Him,
and do His perfect will as long as he lives. God is a Trinity, made up of
Father, Son & Holy Spirit. Moses had Aaron, Hur and others. Even his
father-in-law advised him. Elijah had Elisha, and there was the school of the
prophets. Daniel had his three Hebrew friends and they influenced one another.
Jesus called to Himself 12 men whom He would personally train over a period of
more that three years. They were to continue what He had come to do. Luke
19:10 Jesus was sent "...to seek and to save that which was lost".
He said to those of us who will hear: "…as my Father hath sent me, even
so send I you" John 20:21. Jesus said also to those who will hear:
"…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”.
Mark 16:15. We missionaries can not save, but we can, as I heard one
missionary express it many years ago; "we are just a nobody, telling
everybody about the Somebody that can save anybody"; Jesus can and does
save!
The Great Apostle Paul gathered around him, men whom he called affectionately
"co-laborers". He often identified others, by name, along with
himself, in the work of the Lord: “Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus…and
Sosthenes”. There was Paul and Barnabas and John; Paul and Silas, and of
course the beloved physician, Dr. Luke, whom God used as an “eye witness”,
to pen down “many infallible proofs”, in the book of Acts. He also wrote
the book that bears his name, The Gospel According to Luke.
The prophet Ezekiel recorded God’s declaration that He was looking for a
man. “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and
stand in the gap before me for the land,…” 22:30.
I am more convinced than ever, that God called me to preach the Gospel of
Jesus Christ, and to be a missionary in the country of Brazil. What a joy to
serve Him, and work along with other great men who have also surrendered and
“left it all”, so to speak, to work and labor in the field of Brazil.
May God give us more MEN for Missions, both in Brazil, as well as for the
fields around the world.
Your missionary friends,
